Shop Spotlight – Knit

Knit is located in the historic village of Roslyn at 1353 Old Northern Blvd.  The shop is a “hidden gem” nestled on the side porch of our building.  Crafters are welcome to come and sit at our tables where new friendships are made and old friends get together.  We like to call our store the “Cheers” of knitting stores, the place where everyone knows your name.  Our friendly and knowledgeable staff is always available to help you.

The first Wednesday of each month is Knit Nite from 7-9pm.  Bring dinner and spend the evening knitting and crocheting with people who share your love of the craft.

There’s always something new going on at Knit: knit-a-longs, classes, trunk shows, bingo night.  Be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook @knitlongisland to see our latest projects and keep up with what’s happening at the shop.  Sign up for our newsletter at www.knitlongisland.com

Yarn Crawl Highlights

  • We have been very busy designing new pieces for this year and making new samples.  We will be featuring new patterns and have several new kits.
  • We are excited to be hosting a trunk show, Cozy Colorworks, again this year.  She’s bringing with her new colorways in some of our favorite yarns and lot of new samples.  Sandy, the force behind the yarn, will be in the shop to talk with you and help you with your yarn selection.
  •
  • This year we will be hosting a trunk show of Tika project bags.  Theses fabric bags have a clear section so you can see what project you have inside.
  •
  • Stop by Knit on Friday and Saturday from 3pm to 4pm for a mid-afternoon treat of cookies and desserts.
  •
  • Start your crawling on Saturday and Sunday morning with bagels and coffee at the shop.
  • Try knitting or crocheting with Lykke needles and hooks.  We’re sure you’ll love them as much as we do.  We carry the full range of Lykke needles and hooks, including kits and extra tips and cords.

Yarn Crawl Specials

There will be daily specials each day.  Check out the signs around the shop

We’ve restocked Nancy’s Nook with new sale merchandise so be sure to check it out.

Shop Spotlight – Knitting Cove & Yarn Shop

WE HAVE MOVED!

Knitting Cove and Yarn Shop is located in historic Port Jefferson.  Our new location, just outside of town on Main Street has FREE and ample parking.  Friendly and inviting to knitters and crocheters of all levels we are excited to be participating in the yarn crawl again!  We look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new!

We offer a wide variety of yarn, needles, notions and project bags! This year we are happy to support some of our favorite Independent Dyers.  Sarah from Less Traveled Yarn will be sending her delicious yarn.  Amanda and Judy from 7h Floor Yarns will be with us on Saturday and new to our shop is Crista Jaeckel, whose unique block printed bags are sure to put a smile on every crafters face!

You can always find a warm welcome, people around the table talking, laughing, crying, eating and of course, knitting or crocheting!  We love meeting new people and having them join our community.  It is always so gratifying when we can help someone master a new skill, learn how to fix a mistake or let us provide finishing for their project.  Learning about the projects our customers make and why they make them, the new grandbaby, a wedding shawl for a new daughter-in-law or a blanket for a child who is going away to college is always such a thrill and helps bring us closer together as a family.

I couldn’t do everything I do without the help and support from my partner, Barry and the amazing ladies in the shop, Wendy, Pat, Jenny and Susie!

Don’t forget to join us for our kick off Crawl cocktail party on Thursday evening at 6:00pm.  Light refreshments and beverages will be served.

We can’t wait to see you all!

Shop Spotlight – Long Island Yarn & Farm

A unique experience awaits you when you visit us for the Long Island Yarn Crawl – we’re not a store, we’re a FARM! Long Island Yarn & Farm is a 17-acre yarn and fiber farm in Yaphank, committed to the well being of fibered livestock, specializing in llamas. Fiber, mohair and wool are the by-products from the animals on our farm. As a professional shearer and yarn designer, founder and farm owner, Tabbethia Haubold-Magee, utilizes this fiber, as well as fiber from other American farms, in the production of our own yarns. These yarns put a face with the fiber from nature; and through the hand knit garments made, connect people to the animals we love. Our line of yarns are all limited edition, highlighting the natural colors of the animals, spun in small batches and only available through Long Island Yarn and Farm with each skein numbered and entirely Made in the USA. We work with designers to provide exclusive pattern support for all the yarns we create.

We also carry unique items you can only find here including accessories such as handcrafted sweater guards, and finished products such as hand-woven blankets, scarves, shrugs, socks and so much more. Additionally, we offer our very own Shepherdess Skincare, an all natural, handcrafted lanolin based product line.

While you are here shopping, please save time to tour yourself around the farm and visit with the animals – our sheep, angora goats, hens, Mozart and Chopin, our angora rabbits, and of course, all of the llamas are waiting to meet youYou’ll be able to see how last year’s crias (baby llamas) are growing up! There may even be a guest appearance by some lambs from The Suffolk County Farm & Education Center. Please check our Instagram or Facebook account daily for outdoor activity updates.

Our farm store will be open from 9:00am – 5:30pm each day of the Crawl, and we welcome “by appointment only” any other time of the year. We are passionate about our animals and about fiber and look forward to the opportunity to share them with you.

If you haven’t been here before, you’ll be coming to a residential area. We are in a red house, and there’ll be a big black and white wooden cut out of our llama “Count” to greet you at the mailbox! Please see the directions on our website, www.lilivestockco.com/directions as some GPS devices take you to the back of our property. Any problems please call 631-924-8110.
