The Knitted Purl’s 1500 square foot shop is located in the charming hamlet of Oyster Bay on the North Shore of Long Island.  We offer current and aspiring knitters and crocheters a comprehensive assortment of yarns, needles, notions, patterns, books, and a comfortable, cozy space to learn, share, and collaborate.

The foundation of her company lies in her desire to support the craft of those less fortunate by highlighting their creativity and the resourcefulness of her eco friendly fibers and practices. Springtide Cashmere Trunk Show – Michealla Waryn of Springtide Cashmere runs her families farm of Cashmere Goats in Maine, keeping the fiber manufacturing here in the USA. Due to the labor intensive and boutique nature of Springtide Cashmere they are incredibly selective about where they sell their gorgeous fiber. We are SO excited to provide Long Islanders an opportunity to see, touch and purchase the fiber they have dedicated their lives to!

Purl by the Sea has a history that goes back as far as 2006 when we first opened. We have had trials and tribulations along the years but throughout it all I have never lost my love for Yarn, Knitting and the wonderful people involved in it!

Now my shop is located at 25 Pocahontas Lane, Montauk in my Studio! I have lovely yarns of all types such as Rowan, Malabrigo, Berroco, Lorna’s Laces, Milla Mia, Minnow Merino, Classic Elite, Karabella and Zealana. I also carry a wide range of needles and notions from Lantern Moon, Addi Turbo, Clover. In addition there are single patterns and beautiful pattern Books! You can also shop from our webstore!

We have a guest teacher Rosemary Drysdale that guides us thru the more advanced stages of Knitting!

How to get to us! You need to take Montauk Highway thru the town of Montauk and head towards the lighthouse! You will notice a small green sign on your right with an Airplane on it and immediately after on your left is East Lake Drive which you travel down a while and you will see The Montauk Lake Club on your left and then immediately following on your Right you will see Pocahontas Lane which you turn right on and go to end of road you will see my little sign at end of driveway. The Studio 25 Pocahontas Lane is on your left. You can park on the edge of the lawn or pull in the driveway! Looking forward to seeing you! I also want you to know that this weekend March 20-22 is a very special time for us in Montauk! It is our St. Pat’s Weekend! On Friday, we have a Grand Marshal Luncheon held at Gurney’s Inn in Montauk and we Roast the New Grand Marshal!!! Loads of Laughter and Fun!!!   Next on Saturday comes the St. Pat’s Parade Cocktail Party also held at Gurney’s Inn! Along with a live band, food and raffle prizes we are also entertained by genuine Bag Piper Band!! Then the best is on Sunday we have a wonderful Parade!! It starts at the Montauk Fire House and winds around to the town and ends at the Montauk IGA! You never know who is going to show up in that! I do hope you will join us for all or part of the wonder weekend!! It is truly the opening of our Montauk Season!

Shop Spotlight: The Knitting Corner

In two short weeks we will be kicking off the inaugural Long Island Yarn Crawl.  We are so excited!  The shops are all getting ready.  Only a few more shops are left to share their special plans for the long weekend.

The Knitting Corner is a great place to get many, many different types of yarn. We try to be special for all knitters, no matter what the budget or preference. Our staff is very knowledgeable and can handle any type of knitting or crochet problem. We are a very friendly shop and we try and make everyone feel good about their projects. We have a large selection of books and patterns and a very large selection of needles and notions. We have a friendly Knit Knite group that meets every Thursday from 5-8 PM. All are welcome to enjoy a night of conversation, laughs, snacks, and of course knitting and crochet. There is no charge for this fun night.



We are planning to offer at least 5 kits for the weekend of the crawl, with 4 cowls and 1 scarf. They are all fabulous! A Rowan trunk show will be in store. Stop in to see.

The Knitting Store proprietors, Denise and Barbara, are constantly searching for the best and more unusual yarns at the best prices. With their expertise and industry knowlege they strive to be at the forefront of what is trending in the marketplace. Sew What’s New and Yarn Too! has yarn and fabric, threads, sewing machines. It seems that knitters sew and sewers knit or would like to do both. With all this colorful fiber, we always want to do something creative. We stock Viking, Noro, Cascade, Juniper Moon, Katia, Ella Rae, Plymouth Encore, Knitting Fever’s Painted Sky and Desert as well as their Cozy Soft plus sock yarns. On Tuesday nights, we host Knit Nite which is free. From 5 to 8 PM, knitters and crocheters come and go bringing projects, show-n-tell, and a lot of chatter. This month, we are starting our Knit a Block of the Month project (KBOM).
